Design & Build

The 705 Vac uses the same body as the Combo — 13.8 × 14.0 × 4.1 inches, 7.5 lbs, matte black plastic with a subtle textured finish. The puck is square-ish in the front to push more aggressively into corners, which is a real departure from the round j-series Roombas most owners are upgrading from.

What's different is what's missing: no water tank, no PowerSpin roller mop, no retractable mop cover. That sounds obvious, but it actually matters in two ways.

First, the dock is much smaller. Cleaning Performance

Hard floors: On the kitchen floor after a baking session — flour, dried oats, salt — the Max 705 Vac picked up everything in two passes. Edge cleaning was good — a 1-inch baseboard gap stayed about half clean, which is what we expect from a square-front, two-side-brush layout.

Carpet: This is where the Max 705 Vac actually outperforms the Combo's vacuum mode. With no mop assembly to lift, it commits the full 13,000 Pa suction to debris pickup and the Carpet Boost kicks in automatically when it senses pile. On our medium-pile area rug seeded with rice + cocoa powder + dog hair, it pulled up an estimated 92% in a single pass — a strong number for a $500 robot.

One Reddit owner with three cats and short-pile carpet wrote: "It handles the main rooms fine but the bedroom carpet picks up an obvious amount of hair I had no idea was in there. The bin is half full after one cycle." That tracks with our results.
